Most search engines which are worth considering include sites by referral from existing sites. They trawl the internet with "software programs" called "Spiders". They look at a site and the links from them to other sites and in turn visit each of those sites. To include your site in Google for example all you need to do is make sure that someone elses site already in google links to yours. Preferably get several sites to link. There are multiple benefits to this.

Some search engines charge for entry in their sites and it does not matter how many times you try to buy your way in using third parties, you will never be listed.
